The Life of Pi by Yann Martel
I want to enjoy this book, enjoy it the way most people seem to have done, yet I cannot. I read just to the point where
the real struggle begins, the lifeboat, the animals, etc.
. But the way in which Yann writes was too much for me. The style seem so forced and while I appreciated the random encyclopedic information that the protagonist has to offer to me, I felt bored for most of the third of the book that I managed to read through.
This is one of those reads that everyone I meet, at least those that I trust with any sense of literary judgement, has absolutely loved. I mean, the fact that it has received the “Special Illustrated Edition” treatment is a glowing sign in favor of how popular and successful a book like this must be. But then again, lots of ‘airport books’ sell well. So either everyone else is WRONG, and you may all very well be, or this is just one of those rare moments that I happen to be in the wrong myself.
