La relation d’objet

with one comment

le_cigare_de_lacanThis past term I completed a course entitled “Psychoanalysis and Early Modern Drama”. The focus of the course was to examine psychoanalysis (and there are various types) and apply psychoanalytic readings for Early Modern Dramas (Shakespeare, Jonson, Middleton, Marlowe, & etc.). Key thinkers in this field that we encountered: Sigmund Freud, Slavoj Zizek, Judith Butler, Jacque Lacan, among many other literary critics who wrote in relation to these key psychoanalytic figures.

Jacque Lacan is someone we read and is also someone I still do not understand. That being said, Erin, Andrew, and myself have decided to devote ourselves to various essays in Lacan’s epic Ecrits. Andrew is reading Lacan in order to better understand Zizek. Erin is reading Lacan because she is a glutton for punishment. I am reading him so that I can fit in with Erin and Andrew, it provides me with some cultural credit, and makes me appear smarter than I really am.

We’ve created a blog here at wordpress in order to hash out some of the thoughts we’ll be working with this summer. If you have any interest in joining our readings/discussions, feel free to post. If you want to follow along with our madness, go nuts.

La relation d’objet

Ok, this is an amazing project and I’m in awe of someone who commits themselves to such hard work, dilligence, and creativity. Worth checking out if ever you’re bored. Kari, I know you like crafts so you might enjoy clicking on the site and bookmarking it, cheers.

My Rules for the year: Make something new everyday. Don’t buy anything you can make yourself, especially clothes.
